Post Hunting Season Blues
By Michael Waddell
Ill be the first to admit that I’m spoiled when it comes to having the opportunity to hunt, and hunt a lot at that. Getting to go around the country and even out of the country to experience so many different types of big game as well as hunting technique and culture is truly why I believe my job is the best in the world if your and outdoorsman. With this opportunity is why I’m writing this blog to whine a little and maybe some of you guys and girls feel the way I do.
It’s the post hunting season blues. Is it not funny no matter how much we have the chance to hunt, we always want more. Not just the kill, but also simply the pursuit of big game. Before you know it you realize that deer season is out, turkey season is not in and we find our self in limbo. For people who understand us as bone collectors it is easy to know what I’m talking about here. When big game season ends to a lot of us, it’s no different than closing down the buffet on T-bone! It’s just depressing!
Figure a lot of you fellow hunters would understand my whining here even though its more than likely a little selfish with all the great memories and animals I had the chance to collect this past year. Until another big game season comes in here close to my home state of GA, Ill be chasing a few squirrels with my boy’s Mason (10) and Meyer (5) and maybe even get after a few crows, and find a fish somewhere that’ll bite.
Nick and I also are planning to take T-Bone to the local buffet to try and cheer him up too, for he is got a bad case of the post-season blues too. The disease that only more hunting can cure!
Thanks for you understanding, please be there for those hunters in this rut right now. It will make the world a happier place. LOL!
